Recently, my sister who lives in Paris sent me a link about an exhibition of Mexican Modern Art in the French capital. The exhibition is taking place in the Grand Palais from the 5th of October to the 23rd of January and is named: “Mexique des renaissances” which literally means “Mexico of revivals”.
I like the idea that art is moving and shared across the world. In August, I went to the MARCO (the art museum of Monterrey) and I had the chance to visit an exhibition dedicated to the German painter Otto Dix. Two years ago I was in Paris discovering the paintings of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera…Art moves beyond borders to talk to everyone.
When we talk about Modern Art we mainly refer to the period between 1900 and 1950 (after it’s the Contemporary Art). After the Mexican Independence (face to the Spanish Monarchy) in 1821, Mexico pursued a desire of modernity. This is through art (painting, music, architecture, cinema, literature…) that the country elaborated a new identity, its own identity.
The exhibition is pretty important because this is the biggest event since 1953 dedicated to Mexican Art in France. I look forward to discover it if I have the opportunity to go to France for the end of the year!
